Dental Bone Grafting

At Ceramic Implant Clinic, we understand that losing teeth can affect more than your smile. It can also impact comfort, chewing, confidence, and the bone that supports your teeth.

If you have been told you do not have enough bone for dental implants, bone grafting may help create a more stable foundation for future implant treatment. Our approach is carefully planned, personalised, and designed to support long-term function and natural-looking results.

A dental bone graft is a surgical procedure used to rebuild or support areas where jawbone has been lost. Bone loss can occur after tooth loss, gum disease, infection, trauma, or long-term denture wear.

By adding grafting material to an area of reduced bone volume, we aim to support healing and help create a stronger foundation for dental implant placement where appropriate.

Our Approach to Graft Materials

At Ceramic Implant Clinic, bone grafting is usually performed using carefully selected processed graft materials, chosen according to your anatomy, health history, treatment goals, and implant plan.

  • Autogenous Jaw Bone
In selected cases, autogenous bone may be used. When this is required, a small amount of bone is collected from the jaw only and used as part of the grafting procedure. This is planned carefully and only recommended where clinically appropriate.
  • Allograft
An allograft uses carefully processed donor bone. It avoids the need for a second surgical site and acts as a scaffold to support your body’s natural bone healing process.
  • Xenograft
A xenograft is derived from a non-human source and is extensively processed for dental use. It is commonly used to help maintain or rebuild bone volume in areas being prepared for implants.
  • Synthetic Graft Materials
In some cases, synthetic grafting materials may also be used. The most suitable graft material is selected based on your individual needs and the type of implant treatment being planned.

How Does a Dental Bone Graft Work?

Your treatment begins with a comprehensive consultation and assessment. We use dental imaging and digital planning to evaluate your bone volume, gum health, anatomy, and suitability for implant treatment.
If bone grafting is recommended, the area is numbed with local anaesthetic, and comfort options can be discussed where appropriate. The grafting material is then carefully placed into the area of bone loss and may be covered with a protective membrane to support healing.

The graft is then given time to heal and integrate before implant placement, unless a minor graft can be completed at the same time as the implant.

A Considered Approach to Bone Grafting

At Ceramic Implant Clinic, bone grafting is planned with the whole person in mind. We consider your oral health, medical history, material preferences, aesthetic goals, and long-term maintenance needs before recommending treatment.

Our focus is to provide clear education, careful planning, and a calm, supportive experience at every stage of care.

How Much is a Bone Graft in Australia?

The cost of bone grafting depends on the complexity of the procedure, the amount of bone required, the grafting material used, and whether it is completed at the same time as implant placement or as a separate procedure.

A personalised estimate will be provided after your consultation and diagnostic assessment.

New Patients Journey

Our 5-Step Implant Process

At Ceramic Implant Clinic, your implant journey is designed to feel clear, calm, and personalised from the first consultation. Our process combines careful assessment, digital planning, precise treatment, and ongoing maintenance to support long-term health, function, and natural-looking aesthetics.

1

Comprehensive Consultation

Meet with our experienced implant dentist for a thorough assessment of your oral health, medical history, concerns, goals, and treatment options. Together, we develop a personalised plan designed around your anatomy, wellbeing, material preferences, and desired outcome.

2

Digital Planning

Using 3D imaging, digital scans, and planning software, we assess your bone structure, bite, smile, and ideal implant position. This allows your treatment to be planned with accuracy and helps you understand the proposed outcome before treatment begins.

3

Implant Placement

Your implant is placed using a carefully planned surgical approach, usually under local anaesthetic. Sedation or sleep dentistry options may be discussed where appropriate. Our focus is on comfort, precision, safety, and creating a stable foundation for your restoration.

4

Custom Restoration

A custom crown, bridge, or denture is designed to restore function and blend naturally with your smile. Where clinically suitable, ceramic and zirconia materials may be used to support strength, aesthetics, and biocompatibility. In selected cases, temporary same-day teeth may be possible.

5

Maintenance

Long-term success depends on regular reviews, professional maintenance, and good home care. We provide clear aftercare guidance and ongoing support to help keep your implant, gums, and restoration healthy over time.

FAQs

Frequently asked questions

Healing time varies from patient to patient, but bone grafts commonly require around 3 to 6 months before implant placement. More complex grafts may need additional healing time.

Bone grafting can help rebuild lost bone, support future implant placement, improve the foundation for tooth replacement, and help maintain facial and jaw structure in selected cases.

Mild swelling, bruising, or tenderness is normal after treatment and usually settles over several days. We provide clear post-operative instructions and arrange follow-up appointments to monitor healing.

Implants are commonly placed around 3 to 6 months after grafting, depending on the graft type, healing response, and the amount of bone being rebuilt. In some cases, minor grafting can be completed at the same time as implant placement.

Not every patient requires a bone graft. We assess your bone volume, gum health, bite, and implant position before determining whether grafting is recommended as part of your treatment plan.
